Supporting Our Partner to Deliver Innovative Solutions for the Future
OVERVIEW
In 1957, this large service provider built the world’s first commercial pressurized water reactor. More than 65 years later, 430 nuclear reactors operate worldwide using their technology. Today, this company delivers more efficient and economical solutions for the nuclear industry. They are focused on new nuclear technologies, enabling us to share the benefits of this reliable, clean, safe, and economical energy source with solutions like the AP1000® nuclear plant and new remote energy applications.
CHALLENGE
Addressing challenges and developing new nuclear technologies takes many experienced components and teams. GSE has been a solutions supplier to this customer since 2008, helping it fill gaps in skill sets, provide updates, improve performance, and deliver innovative technologies.
SOLUTIONS
Simulator Modeling and Upgrades – The AP1000 is a pressurized water reactor design that improves the established technology used in previously designed plants, saving owners money and making it easier and less expensive to operate and maintain.
GSE supports the new AP1000 program and services the existing fleet of plants. We collaborated on building simulators for the AP1000 fleet in China and the US. GSE has been contracted to upgrade and integrate the plant models with their advanced reactor control system to reflect the final “as built” design.
Fuel Cycle Services – In 2019, GSE was selected to partner with for multiple projects supporting major plant modifications, such as fuel cycle extensions and thermal performance upgrades.
The typical refueling cycle for nuclear plants is every 18 months. This customer has introduced new fuel and processes to extend fuel life to 24 months, saving significant utility costs. GSE is helping it, and its customers address the changes to the engineering programs due to the longer fuel cycle.
ISI and IST Program Support – GSE supports the service provider in delivering a full range of In-Service Inspection (ISI) and In-Service Testing programmatic services. These services have included training staff in ASME Sections III, XI, and OM code standards and writing Pre-Service and In-Service programs for the latest generation of nuclear stations domestically and abroad.
