Petron: Refinery Training with EnVision On-Demand Simulation
Southeast Asian Refinery Chooses EnVision for Operations Training
GSE helps improve Petron refinery training with two new simulation and tutorial units
In early 2013, Petron Corporation was preparing to launch a new coker for a $1.8 billion expansion at its Bataan Refinery in the Philippines. The process manager, and several of Petron’s managers and engineers attended the Coking.com conference in Houston, looking for people and tools to help them
with their engineer and operator training efforts.
GSE introduced Delayed Coker Unit (DCU) simulation and tutorial products. Petron compared GSE’s products to others at the conference, and the favorable comparison led to inquiries into additional simulation and tutorial products.
In addition to the DCU, Petron was interested in GSE’s Hydrogen Unit Simulation with pressure swing adsorption purification (H2-PSA). GSE delivered a presentation to Petron, and, in January 2014, they placed an order for the two simulations along with their related tutorials.
In March, GSE provided instructor training to 12 Petron engineers, shift supervisors and managers. This group of Petron employees is now qualified to operate and perform administrative functions on the DCU and H2-PSA tools. Training of Petron operations staff is now in progress at the Bataan site using the GSE tools in a blend of self-learning and instructor-led training.
